 west end community gardens

growing  food, growing community

greetings garden family & friends,

HAPPIEST OF NEW YEAR TO YOU!

hope that your HOLY DAY season was all that you wanted it to be and more.

WE have been resting, reflecting and preparing for the another year's planting, and what WE hope will be another bountiful/beautiful season of growth.

january is particularly a good time for the garden space to rest as WE rest our bodies in anticipation of the work that lies ahead.

but...

just in case you are feeling a bit of cabin fever, here are a few  gardening chores to get you outside as the weather permits:

  • rake leaves and incorporate them into your composting routine

  • COMPOST.
  • clean garden beds of those fall/winter crops that have run their course
  • COMPOST.
  • set out apple, peach and pear trees and also grapes vines
  • COMPOST.
  • plant evergreen shrubs and trees
  • COMPOST.
  • soil test to determine soil fertility.

  • COMPOST.
  • order seed
  • COMPOST.

this is also an excellent time to peruse seed catalogs for your favorite varieties of fruits/vegetables. WE would like to share the names of some our favorite seed vendors:
