A Ministry of Compassion and Wholeness

Dear friend,

On behalf of everyone connected with Urban Ministry, thank you for your support during the month of November. Your generosity is greatly appreciated by all of us, especially those whose lives are touched by the ministry your generosity makes possible.

At this time of the year, I am always reminded of the great generosity shown by so many people during the Thanksgiving and Christmas season. This generosity is often made manifest as a heightened concern for those who live at the far edges of our society and our economy.

I am also reminded of just how many people there are in our city who are living on the edge. Some need a meal or emergency box of food to feed their families, some transportation, some medical attention, and some need assistance with utilities.  And let us not forget that many of those who are able to work need a full-time job that pays a living wage with benefits.

This holy season reminds us all that we can be a great help to one another when generosity meets need. When generosity meets need, lives are changed, hope is renewed, and people are brought together in wonderful and blessed ways.

The mission of Urban Ministry is to serve poor and low-income people in the Birmingham area with programs of compassion and wholeness. As a ministry of compassion and wholeness, we are pleased to be able to be one of those places where generosity and need meet. We want to do all that we can to help people live the abundant life that Jesus came to bring to us all. We want to do all that we can to bring people in from the far edge of our society and our economy so that they might live fully as valued members of a world characterized by the love and mercy of God.

As you enter this holy season, all of us at Urban Ministry pray that the blessings of God will be yours in abundant measure.

Peace,

Melissa
