A Ministry of Compassion and Wholeness

greetings garden family & friends,

it is so nice to be appreciated, and nothing says appreciation to a gardener more than a meal magnificently prepared from foods grown in the gardens.

we were treated to such a magnificent meal last week via our friends Clif & Maureen Holt, owners of Little Savannah restaurant in Forest Park.

Clif and Maureen have this simply wonderful idea of partnering with local farmers, highlighting their products in the restaurant and having the community share in the bounty as guests at the ‘Community Farm Table’  hosted every wednesday this summer at Little Savannah.

we gardens were the featured farm last wednesday evening, and i am still smacking my lips! the entire table was reserved by the realty office of John McGill. they were a great group of folks, and we really appreciate their support of Little Savannah and local food.

might i share a course-by-course replay?

first course:

fried green tomatoes

roasted-chili vinaigrette

basil chive aioli

second course:

alabama catfish

yellow corn grits

southern ratatouille of tomatoes/okra/patty pan squash

third course:

sweet cake w/ fresh peaches & figs

everything highlighted came from we gardens, and all else was locally sourced.

especially delightful were the fried green tomatoes utilizing the Neptune variety of tomato presently growing at we.

Neptune is a prolific fruiting variety that produces tomatoes the size of a small apple, perfectly shaped and a vibrant luminous green.

These make the perfect fried green tomatoes, and we will plant even more of these come next season for just that occasion... we would highly recommend that you do the same!

good food, good community.

it just doesn’t get any better than that.

thank you Clif & Maureen!

peace & gratitude

from the fields
